GEARS…

For inquiry this term we have been learning about forces, motion and simple machines.

One of the simple machines we have learnt about are gears.

Below are some samples of shared writing about gears by room 20.

After learning a little about gears we drew some gears.

First, we looked at pictures of gears.

Next, we drew lots of different size gears, trying to make them symmetrical, the same on both sides.

Then we used crayon to add colour and patterns to our gears.

Finally, we used bright coloured dye to dye our gear art.

What is a gear?

Well a gear is something that makes other things move. One other thing is that gears can move opposite direction to the other one.One other thing is that gears can open open things up.

A gear can also be used for clocks and bikes.A gear can’t move if it has no teeth.Gears can also move on axles.

Thats what a gear is

Gears are used for lots of different things.

Gears are metal wheels with teeth to move other gears. Gears are in lots of things like bikes ,clocks ,cars and lots more!

A gear wheel is used for moving things. Bikes have gears to make the tires move. Also gears are in clocks to move the hands.

That is a little about what a gear is!

A gear is a circle with spikes these are called teeth
The teeth make other gears go round. if they did not
have teeth the gears would not go round. that is
why gears have teeth.

What is a gear ?

A gear is a wheel and axle with teeth .Gears are simple machines with teeth . When you turn gear  and the other gear turns the other way.

Gear can have chains on them for an example a bike.
A gear is inside a clock to turn the arms.
Gears can turn the opposite way to each.

GEARS:HOW GEARS WORK

Gears, they have teeth to run on chains.
This is an example:  A bike as I said this is one
of the machines that uses a gear.  A gear is a circle
with big teeth.

In room 20 we did gear art .First we found circles
and drawed teeth on.  Next we had to do patterns
they had to be symmetrical. Then we
coloured with crayons. Then we dyed them
I think they look awesome.

Gears

This story will tell you what a gear is.

A gear is basically like a wheel but with teeth around it.  For an example look at a bike and you will see two gears.  A bike is moved by gears because the gear is moving the wheel and then the back wheel follows behind.

Did you know that sometimes a gear can run on a lever!  I’ll give you a clue where to find a gear have a peek at where people make cars. A gear is a simple machine.  People made gears to make life easier.

Everyone has a gear at their house and I mean everyone!  Some gears can have patterns on them to make them look more colourful and decorated. Sometimes gears can be very useful because they help many people.

And now I have told you what a gear is.

i’m going to tell you  about  gears .

What is  a gear first. A gear is something that makes things move . When you turn a gear the other gear goes if you want to know more about gears keep on reading.

One gear turns clockwise and the other doesn't . Did you know that a gear gear is a simple machine.

A gear wheel has teeth to make it move. A bike has gears with a chain to help the bike move.

fHow we made our gear art...
First we drew our gears then we put our patterns inside the gears and then we did the teeth and next we coloured the gears in then we used crayon and jovi.

Then we check with the teacher and then when she said yes we dyed it
The colours we got to chose from were purple and blue and red and green and yellow and orange. We also needed to make them mechanical.

So thats what we did for our art, we hope you like them.

What is a gear?

Gears, what are gears and how do the work?.If you don’t know what gears are and how they work you should maybe keep reading. This is what gears are and how they work.

Gears are round discs or wheels that have teeth on them. When one gear turns one way the other gear turns a different way.An example of a gear is on a bike.

How does a gear work?.A gear works when other gears teeth are connected to more gears teeth. They also help things like bikes, timers and watches move.Sometime gears can spin on an axle.

Our gear art

Because in room 20 we were studying gears we decided to create some gear art. First we looked at pictures of gears. Next we drew a pattern of gears into our books. Then we coloured our gears in with jovi and crayon. Finally we dyed our gear art.

Gears

Introduction
Gears are wheels that have teeth around the edges. These are one of the many types of simple machines. This is what a gear is.

Gears (that are simple machines) are used in many different things including clocks. Clocks are my example of a simple machine that has gears inside it. You can not see them but that doesn’t mean they are not inside the does it? ! People use gears in clocks so that the hands outside the clock tell the time for us.

Gears What are gears?
Gears are simple machines that we have been learning about .They have a circle with sharp teeth .
One gear can make a pattern left right left right to make something move. An example of a gear is a bike. A gear, chain and wheel make things go up, down and fast.  Some gears are automatic and some have handles to push it round and round.
For our gear art.
First we looked at some
pictures of gears.
We traced a circle and drew one of the patterns, then we coloured them in with jovi & crayon. Once we were finished we dyed our amazing art work
The dye colours were Orange, red, violet, green & blue.
 WE HOPE YOU LIKE THEM!!!!

Gears are
toothed wheels that work with other gears to change the speed in which something is moving. They take power from one part of a machine to another part.  Gears move in opposite direction to each other and can be many different sizes.

A bike is a good example of a machine with gears.  In a bike,  the gears (with the help of a chain)  take power from the pedals to the back wheel.  Did you know that a car has a whole box full of gears, called the gearbox?
