Space and Space Exploration...Our Wonderings and Findings...

Inquiry...
Space and Space Exploration
This term for inquiry the students have been learning and researching about Space and Space Exploration.  They have come up with their own wonderings and followed these wonderings up with exploring the topics through research and presentation.
We have shared some of their wonderings and findings about Space.

Another really cool fact is that  the sun is 150 kilometers  far from the earth!
74%
An interesting fact that I really like is that  74% of the sun's mass is made out of hydrogen.

What I think is the most interesting fact is that the sun’s denominator is  about 110 times wider than earth’s!
Star
Did you know that the sun is a star, and that it is our smallest star?!
99.86%
The sun actually makes up 99.86% of our mass!
8 minutes
The sun's light can easily reach earth in eight minutes.

My Wonderings...
What are the cycles of tides if there are cycles?
picture
what is???

Moon
The Moon controls the tides
Weather
Weather can also affect the tides
Cycle 1
Cycle 1-the sea level rises
Cycle 2
Cycle 2-high tide is reached
Cycle 3
Cycle 3-the sea level falls
Cycle 4
Cycle 4-low tide is reached
Cycle 5
Cycle 5-back to stage 1
Pull
The tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the Moon

My Wonderings...
How big are the Sun’s volcano’s
Picture
What is it?

Sun and Earth       Center of the Solar System
Most important source of energy on Earth.
The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System and is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth.
Sun’s gravity     Earth’s gravity   Earth orbits the Sun
The Sun’s gravity pulls Earth’s gravity into contact with it which makes it orbit the Sun.
Smallest star
The Sun is by far the smallest star in the  solar system, although it can fit  1000,000 Earths inside it!!!!

TOPIC:   The Moon

My Wonderings...

years
The Moon is 4.5 billion years old
lunar month
A lunar month is the time the moon takes to pass through a complete cycle of its phases.
orbits
The Moon takes about 27 days (27 days, 7 hours, 43 minutes, 11.6 seconds) to go all the way around the Earth and return to its starting position.
what is on it?
There is an American Flag on the moon!

Seasons:
  • The Seasons are Summer Autumn Winter Spring.
  • Seasons happen because, The Earth rotates on a slight angle.
Tides:
  • On tides you need to do different things.
  • The Tides are Low tide and high tide, on low tide the tide is out and on high tide the tide is in.
  • The Moon and Sun pulls the tides on Earth.

ART wonderful ART

Wow!
Are we ever creative!

The kids have been working on Space Art over the past month and have completed some amazing work!  :)

Here is a mixture of children's writing about how they created their master pieces!

SPACE CALENDAR ART
This what we have done for our calendar:
First we did the planets with pastel. We blended it to.
Second we drew some lines.
Then we did dark to light and light to dark.
After that we cut out rockets.
Nearly there! We stuck on the rockets cut the planets and stick it on lastly we thought of putting on some glitter.
And that is what we did for our calendar art.

Picasso artwork:
  1. First we got a white piece of paper
  2. Then we drawed 5 lines that made six boxes
  3. Next we painted the boxes different shades of blue and black
  4. After that we got white pieces of paper and blended different colours with pastel
  5. Then we cut the planets in half and stuck them on the different boxes.
  6. Last we stuck glitter planets on the boxes and made newspaper rockets and stuck them on to!

Space paint splatter artwork:

  1. First we got a black piece of paper different paint colours and a straw
  2. Next we dipped the end of the straw in the paint and blew on the other end of the straw and made the paint splatter
  3. Next we drew planets and rockets and painted them
  4. Then we stuck them on our paper

  1. First you need some white paper.

2.Second you need to make six or five lines on the paper.

3.Third you need to paint the background blue and black .

4.Finally you need to stick all of your things on.

This art is cool and I made this by myself and i did Mars and Earth, Venus, Neptune and I can see my two rockets landing on some planets.  What colour is it? It’s black, white, grey, green, gold, blue and gold and i do Love it because it’s my art work and i can see three sparkling moons next to venus, mars, earth, neptune and moon but it’s really good and cool

In our class we made some calendar art.
Firstly we all choose three or four planets.  Then we drew them on a white piece of paper with pastels.  The next thing we did was cut them out.  After that we all started to draw lines on the paper until there were six spaces.
The next day we started to paint three blocks grey and silver  until they blended in. then we painted the other three blocks black and silver.
My favourite part was next when we cut up our planets and stuck them on the painted blocks. Finally the teacher made rockets with newspaper and a yellow strip of paper. the last thing the teacher did was make three glittery plants for us to stick on.

So first we got a black piece of paper and then we

got a straw and dipped it into some paint and blowed
it off the straw.   we could do different colours.    Next we made some planets we could make real
planets or we could make different planets.
we made it for our space art.

Sep 10, 2015 12:04:47 PM.jpg

first we drew lines on a piece of paper then we painted with silver black and blue darkest to lightest.  then with pastels  we blended colours  then we cut the planets into two pieces
then we stuck them on and cut one small triangle  and two big triangles from a magazine.
then we put a yellow tip and stuck them on. we got three glitter planets small, medium  and large  then stuck them on,  and it will end up like this and  that's it!

1.first of all we got a straw then we put the straw in the paint then we blow.Warning do not suck.some people in room 20 did suck the paint from the straw.
2.then when we blew the straw and the paint from the straw went on to the black piece of and it turned out like big bubbles. But when the big bubbles slowly moved down then they weren't bubbles any more.
3.next we let our splotches of paint dry so we could put on our planets. it took probably like over the weekend to dry.
4.when our splotches of paint dried up we could do our planets.
5.next we drew some circles on a white piece of paper and then we painted the planets whatever colour we wanted to paint our planets. then when we were finished painting the planets that we drew and painted we could give them names.
6.when we finished drawing and painting we let them dry.then when they did dry we could cut them out.
7.then when we cut them out and when we finished we could place them on our black  piece of paper. when you are happy with where you have put or placed them you can glue it down.
8.then you are finished :)
